Teaching Writing in the Efl Context
There will hardly be a hundred of students who hate writing in English, but there are millions of teachers who hate what they mistakenly believe is teaching writing. We believed we were not in any of these groups because we had had certain experience in writing and in teaching it. However, our first approach to the topic—presented as a research proposal by two pre-service teachers— allowed us to realize that we actually were in the second group. The initial literature review about the nature of writing skills, its process, the approaches, methods and
strategies motivated us to include more writing lessons in our classes. It clarified our doubts and misconceptions. Other researchers’ experiences have been useful in our multiple attempts to put in practice ideas that better meet our students’ needs. Since then, we have been interested in developing our pedagogical skills to teach writing more effectively.
